Shifting the mindsets of teachers from traditional to modern teaching practices is crucial for fostering a dynamic and effective educational environment that aligns with the evolving needs of students and society. By embracing more modern approaches, teachers can cultivate a culture of lifelong learning, innovation, and creativity, ensuring that students are adequately prepared to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world. These sessions would provide teachers with the WHY they need to make shifts in their instruction.

Student discourse, questioning, responsive and intentional grouping and synthesizing student thinking are just a few of the instructional practices needed to maintain a high level of engagement and learning in our classrooms. There is a progression to mathematical skills. Kids need to have a conceptual understanding of certain skills and be able to build on those skills to continue to be successful. Teachers are given little to no time to better understand these progressions and how to teach these skills. I can provide learning around progressions within mathematical domains and make it digestible for teachers as well as easy to implement within their own classrooms.

Coaching is the most powerful tool to support and shift tier 1 instruction. My coaching support can provide groups of coaches, administrators or teachers with guidance and learning around instructional practices, math standards, progressions and more. I am happy to work side by side in or out of the classroom to help support the learners in your district and buildings.

Leaders who have instructional knowledge in what a modern mathematics classroom looks like, will be able to help support the shifts needed to increase student achievement. At a district level, I can help design and implement a professional learning plan for your district. I can also provide your administrators with learning around mathematics instruction.

Many teachers enter their classroom with little to no learning about teaching math strategies (i.e. fluency) as well as how to utilize math tools. Both of these pieces are extremely important in making mathematics concrete for kids. I can provide large or small groups of teachers with learning around how to use these strategies and tools to meet the needs of the students sitting in front of them.
